Lethal versus non-lethal. That is the main argument for using a stun gun, Taser, pepper spray or instead of a gun. We as a people, horror of violence. But we see it all around us every day. It is in the newspapers, on TV, the Internet, in magazines, on blogs and on and on and on. We can not leave out the fact that violence is commonplace in our society. We are victims of violence ourselves, or we know someone who is. After reading a story of a rape, assault or murder, we all asked ourselves what we would have done if we are in the same situation. Usually our immediate reaction was probably something like: “Boy, would I have slain this guy!” But when it comes right down to taking a life is a big step between getting away from the perpetrator and actually killing them. Most people would just want the immediate situation. This is where stun guns, Tasers and pepper spray in the picture. They are considered non-lethal self defense weapons. Their main function is to stop an attacker, so you can escape the situation. They may not be used to disable an attacker so that you can then attack the attacker! A person shall not be regarded as paranoid or scared when they wear a stun gun, Taser and pepper spray. They are considered prepared. In my years in law enforcement, I discovered that those people who gave little thought to their personal protection, and bought one of these non-lethal weapons, very rarely, if ever, been a victim. Each of these non-lethal weapons have a job. . . It gives you a good chance of getting away from an attacker. Each weapon is designed to temporarily disable the attacker in a certain way and to some extent. The stun gun, when held against the skin of an attacker for 2-5 seconds disrupts the nervous system and the individual disorienting allows you to get out of the situation and want to run the wind. Stun guns come in a variety of styles and strengths. The higher the voltage the less time it should be applied to the skin for the full effects to be felt by the attacker. The strength of most stun guns available ranging from 200,000 volts to one million volts. Stun guns come in all shapes and sizes. Some look like a mobile phone, a baton, a flashlight, a small rectangle in the hand held, and some very intimidating looking heavy objects with large stabbing teeth of the end!

The Taser is much different than a stun gun. The way it works is the same, but how it is used is different. With a Taser can stop an attacker before he even gets close enough to intervene. The range of a Taser, that the public can buy is about 15 ‘to 20′. Two small barbs are shot from a compressed air cartridge, and when they make contact with an attacker, even their clothes, they make a shocking bolt of the tension that the attacker incapacitated almost immediately. The recommended way to use the Taser to fire on the attacker and then run to safety. The C2 model Tasers to the public are now produced in a variety of colors and shape of a such that it is not threatening look and fits easily in a purse or pocket. Pepper spray is a long time and can be very effective in disabling an attacker. The main ingredient is usually Resin Capsicum (OC), a derivative of hot cayenne peppers. That’s right, hot pepper! Hence the common name “pepper” The pepper spray usually comes in a small bus that can be attached to your keychain or a larger size that can be carried in your pocket or in a discreet holster. They all have security to prevent accidental spills latches. You just have to aim the pepper spray in the face of your attacker and spray a stream of pepper spray. After personally experiencing the effects of pepper spray I can tell you that the consequences are not pleasant. When the principal contact with mucous membranes (eyes, nose, throat and lungs), symptoms appear instantly. The capillaries of the eyes immediately dilate, causing temporary blindness. Inflammation of the breathing tube tissues will cause difficulty in breathing, but the striker will still be able to breathe. It is very unpleasant.
